Mary Hong is an award-winning artist on the Emerald Coast of Florida. Originally from Wisconsin, Mary received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Post-graduation launched her into an 18-year career as a flight attendant, mixing her passion for travel with art by free-lancing as a graphic artist in Kailua, Hawaii, her home for nearly 15 years.

Mary and her husband, a commercial airline pilot, relocated to the Emerald Coast in 2004 when she joined the Eglin Aero Club to complete her multi-engine commercial pilot’s rating before giving birth to her twins Kai and Rain in 2006.  As her twins entered preschool, Mary went back into the art world and developed a unique art form that combines paint and glass on canvas. Mary considers herself “a glass artist who paints” and has participated in group and solo exhibitions in the U.S. and France.

Mary’s work has been featured in Atlanta BridalThe Local PaletteThe Chicago TribuneVie Magazine and on the cover of Coastal Lifestyle magazine, and was recently highlighted on the Golf Channel’s Morning Show with Matt Ginella. She is a member of the Cultural Arts Alliance, Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, and the Society of American Mosaic Artists.

“To me, even if glass is broken, it is still beautiful and I love how a painting can put it all back together. I slather glass with gold and silver leaf, then mix it with other shattered remains of lamps, dinnerware and lately, an old shower door. I like imagining the stories glass could tell.” Mary Hong
